Willunga 100 The Hundred Blewitt Springs Grenache

The ‘ Hundred’ range exemplifies the diversity in style that can be achieved with McLaren Vale Grenache by focusing on single vineyard wines from some of the region’s finest sub-zones.

The dry grown bush vines for this single vineyard Grenache were planted in 1952 on ancient sandy soil is over a clay and ironstone base. The Trott vineyard is situated 21Om above sea level, on the moderate to steep hills of Blewitt Springs next to the Onkaparinga Gorge.

Fruit is hand-harvested and whole berry sorted, then vinified in open fermenters and gently basket pressed. The result is a vibrant and complex wine that is a pure expression of both site and variety.

About The Winery

At Willunga 100, they take great pride in their award-winning McLaren Vale wines. The small and passionate team have created an exciting and vibrant range that truly showcases the magic of the McLaren Vale region.
Before Willunga 100’s first vintage in 2005, they explored the region and came across plots of 50-year-old Grenache vines. At the time, most Grenache was destined for blending. They decided this had to change, so made these vines their focus and gave them the attention they deserved.

Today, led by talented young winemaker Skye Salter, Willunga 100 continues to be specialist and award winning winery in McLaren Vale Grenache. McLaren Vale has great geological diversity from sub-region to sub-region, and the soils are among the oldest in the world estimated at over 500 million years. This, along with the Mediterranean climate and old vines, combine to produce low yields and stunning, concentrated fruit. Skye works with Willunga 100’s own Blindspot Vineyard in Blewitt Springs, as well as other coveted vineyards in the region to craft some truly magnificent wines.
